North Bay Celebrates Mining Week

North Bay will once again be hosting Mining Week. This event, presented by The Canadian Institute for Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum (CIM) – Northern Gateway Branch, is a collaborative initiative between community partners and will focus on the importance of the mining industry to the local economy.  The event will run from May 14 to May 18 and activities will take place throughout the city.

The mining sector is a significant contributor to North Bay’s economy. The organizers want to use the Mining Week format to inform the community about the many opportunities in mining and to highlight how international and innovative local mining groups are.

“The Mining Week Committee wants to thank all of the volunteers, mining companies and community partners for their support, which has helped grow North Bay Mining Week into the success that it is.  We invite the community to come out and enjoy all of our events!” says Rachel Cranford, North Bay Mining Week Chair.

This years’ Mining Week will feature a CIM luncheon with guest speaker, collaboration with Trivia Night at The Raven Republic and an entertaining Mining Murder Mystery Dinner at the Davedi Club. In addition, local restaurants will be involved with potential mining themed specials and menus. These events promote the mining industry to the community and to the next generation of industry leaders. The organizers’ objective is to build a foundation to grow North Bay Mining Week each year.

“On behalf of the CIM, we look forward to working with other professional organizations during mining week to bring awareness to our community. There are approximately 67 companies in North Bay, which support the mining industry. This wouldn’t be possible without the support of the community,” says Thomas Rannelli, Chair of the CIM Northern Gateway Branch.
