Education is no longer the only focus for North Bay Police when it comes to COVID-19 and public health safety protocols and regulations.

With the second wave underway, police say they’ll be enforcing the new regulations as needed.

Police say as we enter October people should be aware that when enforcement officers are dealing with a Covid-19 investigation that;
– You are required to provide the officer with your correct name, date of birth and address.
– The new maximum number of people permitted to attend organized public events and social gatherings is reduced to 10 people indoors and 25 people outdoors. This includes functions, parties, dinners, gatherings, BBQs or wedding receptions held in private residences, backyards, parks and other recreational areas.(The new limits for indoor and outdoor gatherings described cannot be combined to form a new capacity limit.)
– These new rules do not apply to a business or organization such as cinemas, convention centres, banquet halls, or restaurants, as well as gyms, recreational sporting or performing arts events (who must follow very specific public health and safety guidelines to minimize risk and limit any spread of COVID-19).
– Police can temporarily close any premises where they believe a gathering or event is in violation of any gathering limits.

For information about other orders that continue to be in effect and enforceable under the ROA, please visit the link to the Act on e-Laws at https://www.ontario.ca/laws/statute/20r17 and click on the “Regulations under this Act” tab.

“With the second wave of Covid-19 upon us our Public Health Officials deemed that changes to the behavior of people is necessary in order to effectively limit the exposure to the virus,” says Chief Scott Tod. “I encourage everyone to do their part to support our health care system and workers and people should be aware that enforcement will occur if people choose to risk the health of members of our community.”

Anyone with information in relation to contraventions of the public health protocols, including limits governing indoor or outdoor gatherings are urged to call the North Bay Police at 705-497-5555 and select option 9 to speak to a police officer.
