As we told you earlier stage 2 of the province’s re-opening plan is set to start on Friday in many areas of Ontario including ours.

Medical Officer of Health Dr. Jim Chirico is issuing a cautious tone.

He says some businesses are allowed to re-open but COVID-19 is not over.

He cautions businesses to open only when they’re ready and to ensure proper infection prevention and control measures are in place.

Dr. Chirico says people need to continue practice physical distancing from one another, use a face covering when distancing is a challenge and use proper coughing/sneezing etiquette.

That means wash your hands often, use hand sanitizer, and do not touch your face.

He says gatherings of more than 10 people are still not allowed.

(Bay Block Party)

Officials with the Bay Block Party, an annual free event downtown, say there won’t be an event this year due to COVID-19.

Bay Block Party Committee Chair Ryan Humble says the safety of the community is of the highest priority and they’re committed to following the government and health officials’ recommendations to practice physical distancing and not hold large gatherings.

He says attendance hit 4,000 at last year’e event and they’re hoping for similar success next year.
