The warmer temperatures and precipitation in the forecast have resulted in a water safety watershed conditions statement for the North Bay District.

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry and Conservation Authority both say increased levels and flows are expected with increased melting and degrading of the snowpack and river ice.

Residents are advised to exercise caution around rivers and streams.

“The anticipated rainfall combined with the warm temperatures will result in snowmelt and increased runoff to area lakes and watercourses.  Flooding from rivers or lakes is not anticipated at this time, however, water is likely to accumulate on roadways, parking lots, and flat or low-lying areas,” said Kurtis Romanchuk, NBMCA Duty Officer.
