Classes are cancelled today for students in the local French Catholic and French public school boards.

Teachers in the French language system are holding their first province-wide strike today.

Meantime, most schools across Ontario will be shut down next Friday, February 21st.

The province’s four major teacher unions including English and French public and Catholic teachers and education workers are planning a one-day walkout to press contract demands.

About 5,000 schools with more than 2 million students would be affected.
