A record number of tips were received by Near North Crime Stoppers last year.

The organization says they received 878 tips and 69 % were received on line at  www.nearnorthcrimestoppers.com.

Board Chairperson, Chad Evans says the number one issue year-after-year is still drug related criminal activity.

He says since its inception in 1988, over $51.7 million in illegal drugs have been recovered by police, thanks to anonymous tips received through Near North Crime Stoppers.

This has also led to 23 arrests.

Since 1988, close to 1,700 people have been arrested through tips received by Near North Crime Stoppers.

OPP in Powassan have charged a 21 year old North Bay man with impaired after an officer spotted a vehicle in the ditch on Hwy 11 near Purdon Line Friday night around 10pm.

OPP says the driver registered a fail after providing a breath sample.
