The two North Bay No Frills stores on Lakeshore Drive and McKeown Avenue and Parkers Your Independent Grocer as well are part of the Holiday Food Drive at Loblaws stores across Ontario.

All food collected at the North Bay stores will go directly to the North Bay Food Bank.

Manager Amber Livingstone says every bit helps and it’s great time of year too to support the food bank.

“If everybody in North Bay gave one item or one dollar we would have over 50,000 items or over $50,000. So that one item does make a difference,” she says.

The food drive wraps up next Tuesday.

Livingstone says cash donations are also being accepted and everything donated locally stays here.

There are 340,000 Ontario residents who rely on assistance from food banks each month.

Jeff Buckton owns Jeff and Tanis’ No Frills on Lakeshore Drive.

He says people can drop off food or make a cash donation at the checkout.

“It’s that time of year where some may not be as fortunate as other people. We have had some customers have asked if anything can be done and this is a great way to help,” he says.

Last year, 1,400 pounds of food were collected locally and there was also a contribution from Food Banks Canada.
