The American College of Surgeons has recognized the North Bay Regional Health Centre for their quality of surgery outcomes.

The NBRHC is designated as one of the top 88 out of 722 participating hospitals to achieve ‘meritorious outcomes’ for surgical patient care in 2018.

This recognition is bestowed on the top 10% of all hospitals enrolled in the American College of Surgeons National Surgical Quality Improvement Program.

Local surgeon champion Dr. Amber Menezes says they’ve achieved great success for surgical patients at NBRHC including decreased rates of peri-operative pneumonia, cardiac complications and renal failure.

In 2017, the NBRHC implemented the Surgical Site Infection Reduction project and are now focusing on reducing opioids after surgery.
