The NDA Hockey Tournament has gone the extra mile for the North Bay Food Bank.

Manager Amber Livingstone was presented with a cheque of $3,000 from this year’s event by tournament organizer Anthony Loreto.

She says this is the most they’ve received from this event since they partnered in 2016.

She says every bit counts in supporting those who need the food bank.

“We really appreciate the food donations that people donate but more importantly the monetary donations allow us to choose the items that are in need of to fill our food carry hampers,” Livingstone says.

Loreto says the players that take part in the hockey tournament recognize the importance of the food bank because there may be a teammate who has used the food bank.

“That’s one of the reasons why this is such a good charity to support. A lot of the times people don’t know how many people need the food bank. You just have to come down here, see the volunteers, see the people in need and it’s surreal,” he says.

The funds raised have been registered with My Team Cares, formerly Coach4Food which accepts donations from any team, club or group, all of which supports the North Bay Food Bank.

Spokesperson Deb Marson says they have 15 teams right now and will provide an update on what’s been generated through either food that’s collected or cash donations in the New Year.
