It’s not often the city purchases land from a developer but council has approved a plan to do just that.

The land owned by J.P. Investments is 86 acres of property on Lakeshore Drive adjacent to the Omischl Sports Complex which is the site of the new city community centre.

General Government Committee chair Tanya Vrebosch says there are options on what the city can do with the property.

“Small lot development which would create a small community. Also, commercial development and with the new community centre coming there will be opportunities for people to access the complex,” she says.

Vrebosch says this is an exciting and unique opportunity to develop this part of the city.

“With the increase in activity in that part of the city including the new community centre, the casino and the new buildings on Pinewood Park Drive we’re hoping to see more housing development down there,” Vrebosch says.

She says the cost of the land is $295,000 with 30 acres of land with utility services already in place and also enough green space for passive and active recreation activities.
