North Bay Police and OPP are out with safety tips for Halloween.

Special Cst. with North Bay Police John Schultz says motorists should be driving extra cautiously in the late afternoon and evening hours, especially between 5:30 and 9:30 pm.

“To allow for extra time, lower your speed limit, be extra vigilant especially when you’re pulling into and out of driveways. We have to keep our eyes open for kids out there in their costumes,” he says.

Schultz also has advice for parents too.

“Remind your trick or treaters when they go out to look both ways when they cross the street. Use traffic signals or crosswalks if they’re available. If there’s no sidewalks ensure they’re on the left side of the road,” he says.

OPP encourages trick or treaters to carry a flashlight and wear costumes with bright colours and reflective material, use make-up instead of masks, never criss-cross the street, never go inside a house and always have an adult check over your treats before eating them.
