The North Bay Science Festival is back for a third year.

It’s underway all week and includes some new events.

They include a climate action panel and Wednesday night’s special science festival Ignite session at St Joseph-Scollard Hall.

Chair Lora Clausen tells BayToday the festival has evolved over the past few years.

“We’ve really looked to continue to increasing the partnership, bringing in more partners to help grow the festival, grow the types of events that we do, grow the input and innovation that goes into it, as well,” she says.

Clausen says it’s important to bring the festival to the community.

“There’s already a lot of great science that happens in these communities, but people within the community don’t necessarily know about.  Having this partnership really helps to bring that to light and really helps engage people within the community to know what is happening in their own neighbourhoods,” she tells BayToday.

Coding outreach programs are happening all week for elementary students, there’s science Olympics for secondary schools and a science carnival.

Clausen says the community is invited to the carnival, which goes from 11 am to 4 pm at the 22 Wing Fitness and Wellness Centre, CFB North Bay.

“We’re going to be bringing out a lot of different science, technology, engineering exhibitors that have hands-on activities, so there’s something really fun for people to do, it will include a rock climbing wall,” she says.
