Construction is moving ahead ‘smoothly’ with the Cascades Casino North Bay project on Pinewood Park Drive.

That’s the word from Gateway Casinos and Entertainment spokesperson Rob Mitchell.

“The foundation has been poured or is underway right now. We’re taking a shipment of rebar and structural steel, it’s supposed to arrive next Wednesday,” he says.

Once that arrives they can build the shell, start construction indoors and move forward.

“It’s always difficult at this time of the year because the weather gets a bit unpredictable and if you get snow or rain it’s difficult to move heavy machinery through and it can slow things down a bit, but as I understand it we are on schedule right now,” he says.

It was previously announced they’re targeting a July 2020 opening.

Mitchell says the casino here will look very similar to the newly constructed gaming facility in Chatham.

“It has the same amenities, you’ll see the Match Eatery and Public House, The Buffet, the live entertainment, the sports bar, the outdoor patio,” he says.

The 39,000 square foot gaming facility will feature 300 slots and eight live table games.

At the groundbreaking at the end of May, Gateway said they’re investing $31 million to build the casino and create up to 300 new jobs in North Bay.
