Nipissing MPP Vic Fedeli is trading in the turkey for Kimchi this Thanksgiving weekend.

Ontario’s Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade Minister is off to South Korea and Japan tomorrow (Saturday) for the first of two trade missions this fall.

He says it’s really a sales mission for the province.

“We’ll meet with Canada’s ambassadors to both South Korea and Japan, but primarily I’m meeting with auto companies, aerospace companies and technology companies,” Fedeli says.

Ontario’s Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, Ernie Hardeman, is also taking part, and will focus on selling more pork, beef and grain to South Korea and Japan.

Fedeli, who returns next Friday, also has a trade mission to India coming up next month.

He says he met with local mining companies ahead of both trade missions, to help with their sales.

Almost 70 of our companies are dealing all through Asia, selling mining products and actually building mines. It’s amazing how many North Bay men and women are employed globally,” Fedeli says.

Overall, these missions boil down to drumming up support for Ontario companies.

“These are real sales missions, I expect to have sales metrics coming out of it, we want success coming out of these missions,” he says.

The trade mission to India goes November 18th to the 22nd.
