This year’s CIBC Run For The Cure is less than a month away.

This year’s event goes Sunday October 6th at the North Bay Waterfront.

Co-chair of the event is Melanie Gainforth.

She says this will be the 15th year they’ve put on the event locally.

“One in eight women are diagnosed with breast cancer. We all know someone who has been affected whether it’s our grandmothers or our neighbours. It affects us all,” she says.

Gainforth says in the first 14 years over $1.1 million has been raised locally in fight against breast cancer and they have a goal of $50,000 this year.

She says 20 teams have registered to date and there’s still time to register.

A survivor of breast cancer, Christine Comeau was told by her doctor her case was terminal but she has surpassed the timeline initially given her of 2.5 years.

” I wasn’t ready to leave this world. I wanted to keep going. I realize not everyone has that choice depending on what stage their cancer is. I had the opportunity to keep going and feel blessed,” Comeau says.

She has also started an outreach group for fellow survivors.
