The International Plowing Match and Rural Expo starts in less than 10 days in Verner.

On Friday, Nipissing MPP Vic Fedeli announced a further provincial contribution to the event.

He says this is a great opportunity to promote the importance of agriculture in Northern Ontario.

“And that’s why we’re investing $225,000 from the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund in the grounds, roads, infrastructure and bleachers. $15,000 for the marketing and to make the drive form West Nipissing to Verner accessible,” Fedeli says.

Neil Fox is the chair of the organizing committee.

He says there are two major benefits to hosting this event.

“We expect $20-25 million in economic spinoffs. It’s also an opportunity to showcase our community and show how important agriculture is to our regional economy,” he says.

He says they expect to have over 1,000 volunteers and they’re fulfilling a number of jobs including sponsorships, marketing and putting up tents.
