With concern in the community over issues like addiction, discarded sharps, poverty, homelessness and more, a roundtable meeting is being held next Wednesday.
Mayor Al McDonald is hosting 30 community group representatives to discuss the complex issues and challenges.
“They’re the experts and have all the knowledge and expertise and resources behind them. We want to bring them all in to find solutions, to identify the gaps to assist the individuals with mental health and addictions, because they deserve assistance,” he says.
Finding solutions to homelessness is also a priority.
“We know that there is poverty out there and some people have no place to go, so we want to bring all these experts together to say ‘what can we do,’ and best practices to help everyone in our community,” McDonald says.
Officials say the roundtable meeting is part of an ongoing effort to develop solutions to the challenges in our community related to addiction, homelessness and mental health that began many months ago involving elected officials, City staff and partner organizations.
