The North Bay and District Humane Society says they’re now caring for a large mixed breed dog that’s been involved in several dog bites.

Officials say they’re in consultation with other professional animal facilities and animal trainers in order to complete a full behavior assessment on the dog.

Manager of Investigations and Animal Control Nicole Driscoll says no one is allowed to allow a dog to run at large within the city limits.

Meantime, the humane society is part of a group effort to transport dogs in and around the Pikangikum First Nation which has been ravaged by fire to Southern Ontario where there’s demand for adoptable pets.

The dogs are being transported on the Humane Society’s Pet Valu Animal Rescue Express.

The dogs are expected to arrive at Ontario SPCA animal centres in Barrie, Muskoka, Midland, Orillia and Orangeville on Thursday and are being cared for by the Northern Reach Rescue Network, a rescue group based in Thunder Bay that transports dogs in need of homes from Northern communities to be adopted.
