The North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority has upgraded the flood watch to a flood warning.

Officials say with the heavy precipitation already, rain continuing and water from the melting snowpack we’re already receiving increased water levels and flows of creeks and streams throughout the watershed.

A flood warning means flooding is imminent or already occurring in specific watercourses or municipalities.

The authority’s Duty Officer says water levels are high and rising and in in some instances above the banks.
Kurtis Romanchuk says Chippewa Creek is already above its 1 in 5 year flood level and is continuing to rise.

He says the level in urban creeks rises more quickly than rural creeks which are expected to have minor flooding.

Lake Nipissing’s level is also going up but no flooding is expected.
