A paediatric palliative care room at the Nipissing Serenity Hospice will be named the “Alex and Murray Pace” Room.

The late Dr Murray Pace delivered thousands of babies and played a significant role in the lives of many young families in the North Bay area.

Alex Pace passed away just shy of his 12th birthday after a two-year battle with bone cancer.

“Alex was a sweet and kind young man with wisdom beyond his years,” says Kate Pace Lindsay, Honourary Co-Chair, Nipissing Serenity Hospice. “He stood strong and courageous in the face of this disease and left us amazed at the strength found in an 11-year old boy. Dad passed away just over one year later after celebrating his 80th birthday following his 16-year battle with Parkinson’s disease. Both were blessed to pass in a home-like setting, cared for by compassionate caregivers, and surrounded by the people that loved them.”

“Through the incredible generosity of my brother Al and wife Kristin through the Pace Family Foundation, this paediatric palliative care room has been made possible. The donation was given as a special gift to recognize my 50th birthday but more importantly to honour a grandfather-Murray and his brave young grandson-Alex,” she adds.

The room will provide a home-like setting, with medically supervised care, for terminally ill children, their siblings, parents and other family members.
