A special committee meeting of council will be held next Tuesday to go over an updated report involving a new Multi-Use Recreational Facility Study.

The original study was done several years ago.

Chair of Community Services Councillor Johanne Brousseau says they need to make some big decisions in the near future about ice pads.

“The clock is ticking for West Ferris arena, and ideally I’d like to have one shut down one day and the other open immediately afterwards so that our users are not without ice surfaces for a lengthy period of time,” she says.

The study indicates the city is in need of at least one more ice pad for it’s current demands, plus with West Ferris Arena set to close, they will need to add at least one more.

Brousseau also says with Pete Palangio aging, it could mean the city is in need of four pads over the long term.

“But, that’s me talking, not tax payers money so if I win $10-million I’ll know where to invest it,” she says.

Overall, Brousseau is hopeful they will keep in mind that future expansion could take place no matter how many or where the study recommends additional ice surfaces.
