Canadore College continues to encourage anyone with information to relay to a third party investigator to do so, including a New Democrat MPP from Toronto.

This after MPP Chris Glover, critic for colleges and universities said he’s urging the province to get involved in the situation surrounding harassment and misconduct allegations at Canadore.

“As the Ontario NDP’s critic for Colleges and Universities, I met with and listened to women who shared terrible stories of sexual harassment at Canadore College, and who have ongoing concerns about how their reports are being handled. The situation is serious, and I have written a letter to the Minister of Training, Colleges and Universities urging her to step in and take action immediately. When women speak up, we all have a responsibility to listen, and react.”

BayToday, meantime, reports some of the impacted women at the college are calling for the employee involved to be put on paid leave while the third party investigation takes place.

Here is the full statement from Canadore:

We wish to respond to a written report that appeared this morning quoting Chris Glover, an MPP from Toronto, and we want to take this opportunity to provide you with a brief update on the ongoing investigation at Canadore.

In late February, 2019 we received a complaint from a former contract employee, whose contract had not been renewed. In addition, the lawyer for this complainant made numerous allegations, all of which were (and remain) anonymous, about alleged sexual harassment and claims of discrimination.

The health and wellbeing of all members of the Canadore community is critically important, and we reiterate that we want to ensure we have all of the correct information and can take steps as appropriate. That is why we retained an investigator and an independent third-party investigation process was commenced.

More than three weeks ago the investigator, Jane Richardson, provided the terms of her investigation and her contact information. Specifically she advised the community that:

“Any employee, or former employee, of the College may contact me immediately on my confidential email at jane@ejrworkplace.com and/or effective Friday, March 8 at a dedicated confidential phone number at 416.469.4354 to bring forward their complaints of harassment or discrimination at the College. Those who are, or were, represented by OPSEU may contact me through an OPSEU representative if they prefer.”

We encourage anyone, including Mr. Glover, who has information to speak with this independent third-party investigator.
