A successful fundraiser for Rotary4Kids!

Donations are still coming in, but Kevin’s Longest Morning raised $70,400 when the radio marathon signed off the air at 10 am Friday.

The fundraiser for local children with special needs and their families saw KiSS 100.5 morning show host Kevin Oschefski broadcast live for 29 straight hours.

Fighting back tears, Oschefski recalled how he saw a little girl at Thursday’s breakfast at W.J. Fricker Public School wearing a t-shirt that read ‘Kids Can Change the World’.

“I thought what a fitting t-shirt as we do this fundraiser, because I think they can. It doesn’t matter what your challenges are, what your needs are, through these donations, these programs, the equipment that we’re able to get them, they’re able to do anything and they should know that they can change the world,” he says.

After the Fricker breakfast Thursday morning, the broadcast moved to Canadian Tire on McKeown Avenue, then wrapped up Friday morning at Burger World on Hammond.

Rotary4Kids chair Jeff Rogerson says the community embraces their appeal, which supports local children.

“It’s a completely local fundraiser, filling local need. We’re so grateful to everyone that made a phone call, went to their computer, dropped in or dropped a cheque in the mail,” he says.

Rogerson points out donations can be made anytime online at rotary4kids.ca and longestmorning.ca.
