A new chiller is going to installed at West Ferris Arena.

The arena was shut down as a precautionary measure on Friday after ammonia was detected in samplings of brine solution in the chiller unit.

The old chiller is being decommissioned this weekend and is being replaced with a new unit.

The work is expected to take at least five days to complete, with officials targeting Friday to reopen the arena.

Chair of Community Services, Councillor Johanne Brousseau says the city is working with user groups to make accommodations to minimize inconveniences.

An update is expected early in the week as the work progresses.
