Retaining students by linking them to the workforce is the idea behind a new partnership between The Labour Market Group, Nipissing University Student Union and YES Employment.

A series of workshops entitled “Build Your Future” launched today (Wednesday) covering topics like professional job search and interview etiquette, the job market and more.

“Graduating students from Nipissing have plenty of career opportunities right here in North Bay” states LMG’s Executive Director, Stacie Fiddler. “Providing these sessions will not only help to inform students of local employment options, but will help to build the confidence they need to achieve success in the workplace.”

Officials say the Labour Market Group’s monthly job study shows that hundreds of jobs are available locally.

They say these sessions provide the first step in retaining post secondary students by providing linkages to local employers and providing awareness of local workforce opportunities.

CAO of YES Employment, Leeanne Maille states “As North Bay and area’s primary employment service provider, YES Employment helps thousands of people of all ages find work and prepare job seekers for workplace readiness. For businesses and organizations, we serve as their first call for filling positions of all levels of skill, education and experience”.

Director of Communications for NUSU Sarah McGowan states, “We are so thankful to work with community partners wanting to invest in our students and help them connect to their future”.

The sessions will run weekly from January 16 until February 12th.
