The coach for food campaign is underway.

The initiative got started Thursday night with fans being asked to bring a non-perishable food item to the Battalion game.

The campaign, in support of the North Bay Food Bank, will see 24 minor hockey teams collecting food around the city until December 1st.

Leading teams in three categories will earn Battalion-led practices.

John McLellan is the Senior Manager of marketing with the North Bay Battalion.

He says “a lot of people are struggling 12 months of the year and what it does, by tying it in with minor hockey, is get those kids to collect food and have them give back to the community. It’s a great partnership for everybody.”

McLellan says this is a great opportunity for any young hockey player.

He adds “it’s something that is good for their development as hockey players with the Battalion staff there for the practice, but it’s also good for their development as human beings, giving back to the community and being involved with the food bank.”
