Expect an increased police presence in the community this homecoming weekend.

That from city police chief Shawn Devine.

Police are warning they’re taking a zero-tolerance approach to open alcohol in the streets and noisy parties.

“The North Bay Police Service has worked with the student unions and administrative representatives from both post-secondary institutions on delivering the messaging of being good neighbours,” says Devine.

“While police want everyone to enjoy their weekend, we want students to be aware ultimately they represent the schools they attend and we provide these guidelines,” he adds.

Police are reminding students about the three R’s of homecoming:

Be Respectful
Don’t be a noisy neighbour: The Noise By-Law in North Bay states you have a 24 hours a day responsibility to avoid excessive noise and breaching this will cost you $240 for the first offence.

Be Responsible
Parking: Parking in the wrong place not only costs you a fine but cab fare to pick up your vehicle when it has been towed away.
Open Liquor: Police will seize your liquor and present you with a ticket totaling $140.
Public Intoxication: Could result in incarceration at city police headquarters and a $65 ticket.

Be Reliable
Be the friend you should be: Being a good friend includes watching that no one has put anything in your friends drink. Have fun but if someone in your group goes over the line a good friend helps them home safely.
