The chair of the city’s arena committee says he’s not anticipating a decision from council on where North Bay’s new arena will be built before the municipal election.

Another meeting of the city’s arena committee is coming up on this week.

Committee chair Mark King says they’ve already recommended the Omischl Sports Complex as the preferred city-owned site, but staff are also looking at the various private proposals that came in.

“Because we had so many interesting secondary private proposals that came out of that process, it was deemed by the committee that we would look at those opportunities and see what they would present,” he says.

King says city CAO Keith Robicheau will be reporting back at Friday’s meeting.

“As far as the private sector is concerned the committee wants to listen to his perspective and what that would actually look like,” he says.

King says this should help set the table for the next council to make the final decision on location.

The meeting is set for 7:45 am at city hall.
