A mayoral candidate in North Bay is suggesting the Capitol Centre be sold to Nipissing University and it’s annual budget be used to support an event management company in bringing in entertainment to Memorial Gardens.

That from Will Boissoin.

He put forward the proposal in a release defending the upgrades done to the arena five years ago, calling it “the best money the city has ever spent”.

Boissoin says it’s now a world class arena that is able to host the World Women’s Curling Championship and an OHL team.

He says any left over money from attracting entertainment to the Gardens could go towards winter maintenance.

(This is an updated story, Boissoin’s original media release states he proposes selling the Capitol Centre.  On Friday afternoon, he released an update stating his proposal would be to sell the Capitol Centre to Nipissing University.)
