City Council has awarded a contract for the provision of consulting services on the Cassells Street reconstruction project.

The chair of the Public Works Committee Councillor Tanya Vrebosch says this now paves the way for the design work to start.

“The actual tender should go out early 2019 and then we’ll see the project start in 2019 but most likely will take 2 seasons to complete. This is a very large project. It’s probably going to be a $10 million project,” she says.

She says the project will be conducted in 3 stages with stage 1and 2 conducted the next couple of seasons and stage 3 after that.
“It will include the widening of the Chippewa Creek Bridge. It will include the curbs, gutters, water mains underneath and the traffic lights will be updated. It’s a project that’s long overdue and we’re ready to get started next year,” Vrebosch says.

Work will take place from the highway turnoff to King Street.

She says part of Cassells will be widened.

They’re also looking at a no left hand turn into the plaza that includes the Shoppers, the Brewers Retail and the Food Basics.
