The city’s arena committee, looking over options to replace the West Ferris Arena, has directed staff to develop a draft Request For Proposal involving private arena proposals.

This after the group met yesterday (Wednesday).

Chair Mark King tells BayToday most, but not all, of the committee members want to learn more.

“That are very open and anxious to look at what other opportunities are out in the public domain at this particular point, and what those opportunities would look like,” he says.

The group’s next meeting is July 23rd.

There were six private ‘expressions of interest’ for an arena proposal at various sites around the city.

A staff report says the expressions of interest received involved:
– 1059 Lakeshore Drive
– Wallace Road and Mountainview Drive
– West Ferris Lot 38
– Pinewood Park Drive
– North Bay Mall
– North End Sports and Entertainment Complex

The committee previous selected the Omischl Complex as the preferred city-owned site for an arena, should it built on city-owned land.
