The North Bay-Parry Sound District Health Unit says they have had a few cases of Whooping Cough in the Powassan area.

They reminds parents to ensure their children have been vaccinated and since parents, grandparents and caregivers take care of children it’s important everyone is vaccinated.

Medical Officer of Health Dr. Jim Chirico says Whooping Cough can be dangerous and in some cases it can be fatal.

He says babies and pregnant women are most at risk.

He urges people who are at high risk to avoid enclosed public spaces.

Symptoms of Whooping Cough include sneezing, runny nose, low fever and a mild cough that gets worse over a 2 week period.
