The 20th annual Workplace Safety North Mining Health and Safety Conference is going on in Sudbury this week.

It started on Tuesday and wraps up tomorrow.

Mike Parent is director of mining at Workplace Safety North.

He says workplace safety at mines has improved in the last 2 decades but they won’t be happy until no one gets injured or killed.

He says there are technical sessions like safety research and mine rescue but there’s a new major theme this year.

“Every year we have a conference theme and bring in experts to discuss. This year we brought in industry experts to discuss building a strong safety culture in our workplaces,” he says.

He says its important to bring in guest speakers who have enhanced knowledge of influencing an improved culture so safety performance can be improved.

Other highlights include a trade show and the annual safety innovation awards.
