Quite the year in 2017 for Ontario Northland

2017 was a year to remember at Ontario Northland.

President and CEO Corina Moore says it was a good year for the company and its employees.

“We’ve hired over 100 employees and 75 of them are in North Bay. Lots of work in the shops infact we’re at capacity. We’ve added a night shift too. Just a lot of great things happening across the organization.”
She says they’ve acquired a wide variety of contracts that employees are delivering on.

‘We have passenger car refurbishment, we have the luxury trains out west from Rocky Mountaineer. On the freight side we’re doing dozens of internal freight cars and dozens of external freight cars for people like Genosee and Wyoming.”

As well, she says they’re working on their own Polar Bear Express refurbishment and on the locomotive side they just landed a CN repair contract.

Moore says a lot of the jobs in North Bay are highly skilled ones and are in several areas including more electricians, increased production workers, and more jobs in management and finance.

Moore credits a combination of a good workforce and a great vision of stability.

She says the result has been new business and a promising future.

She says they’ve acquired a wide variety of contracts that employees are delivering on.
