A big day for Cementation Canada on Friday as there was a ribbon cutting as the local operation on Legault Road is now the home of the company’s North American maintenance facility.

President Roy Slack says this is a $10 million investment in the community.

He says they’ve added to their facility.

“The fact that we’ve had some property here was a factor for sure in locating in North Bay. Also, we like it here. North Bay is a great town and we have an office here. It made sense to expand and do our full shop facility here.”

Slack says they’ve expanded their footprint in the city.

“I believe the total facilities here are now 40,000 square feet and that includes the old facility which was 10,000 square feet so the addition alone is 30,000 square feet.”
He says the new shop is capable of operating and testing electoral motors up to 600 horsepower and has a compressed air system that can test and operate pneumatic equipment.

Slack says they’ve also installed 50 and 20 metric ton overhead cranes and embedded floor anchors to secure hoists and winches for testing.

Slack says they received $1 million in support for the project from the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund.

He says the shop will now be responsible for several projects.

Right now they have business with companies based in Arizona and Mexico. As well, Cementation was recognized for receiving a national safety award.
