Sunrise Records has been in North Bay for about two years now, but they’re celebrating this weekend.

In fact, all 80-plus Sunrise Records stores in Canada are holding Grand Opening events on Saturday and Sunday to coincide with the latest round of stores opening.

VP of Operations Chris Dipardo says they have in-store giveaways, discounts and more.

Plus, he says they’re launching the Big Local Artist Contest (CLICK HERE), which gives emerging artists the chance to win nation-wide distribution.

“Our owner Doug actually came up with the idea, he said to us ‘let’s take it one step further and we’ll actually press their album and make their CD’s for them, on our dime,” he says.

A top 10 will be decided by online votes with a panel of Sunrise judges choosing the winner.

As for the North Bay store, Dipardo says they’re doing well and just underwent a makeover.

“We got a lot more product and a lot more selection, so we wanted to do a big visual change. We spent overnight, throughout a weekend, rearranging the store to fit all of this product in,” he says.

Outside of the Big Local Artist Contest, Dipardo says it’s a pretty easy process for local artists to get their music in their neighbourhood store.

He encourages them to come in and talk with the manager.
