We told you last October about The Village project.

The plan calls for a new, fully integrated Village Living,Wellness and Learning Centre to be built at the college.

Yesterday, officials announced a $5 million fundraising campaign,

One of the fundraising co chairs is Judy Sharpe.

She says she believes the amount to be raised is doable.

She says they live in a philanthropic community and they have a project that will make a difference locally, regionally, provincially and nationally.

The total cost of the project is $20 million with $15 million already accounted for through provincial, federal and Canadore College funding and private donations too.

The plan calls for the centre to be up and running in the fall of next year.

Meantime, Canadore College president George Burton says the college has signed a deal with an Aboriginal Learning Instiution KTI Educational Institute.

He says the deal includes program and curriculum sharing because both institutions are student focused.

Burton says this is the 6th educational institute that the college is aligned with.
