Quints home staying in North Bay

The Dionne Quints home is staying in the Gateway City.

Council voted 7-3 to move the home to the Community Waterfront Park, between Discovery North Bay Museum and Marina Point.

Chair of the Friends of the Dionne Quints Home Museum Jeff Fournier says the home’s journey is far from over, but this is a good start.

“We still have work to do as far as coming up with an operating agreement with the city,” he says.

Fournier says many sleepless nights and hard work from his volunteers are what most likely changed council’s mind.

He says the main focus now will be to disolve the current board and put into place a more permanent set of board members, which could include two more city councillors and five to six members of the current board.

Before the regular Council meeting began, Mayor Al McDonald changed his previous support of moving the home to Strong Township, giving the local organization and it’s committee an important vote.

Councillor Mark King, who has been against keeping the home in North Bay made a last ditch effort to move to home but ultimately fell on deaf ears.
