One of several events surrounding tomorrow’s International Women’s Day is taking place tonight.

The United Way Sudbury and Nipissing Districts’ Tampon Tuesday is involves feminine hygiene products being collected and then donated to the North Bay Food Bank and Nipissing Transition House.

Community Coordinator Katina Matheson says it’s also about raising awareness.

“Tampons and pads are considered luxury items, in the sense that they aren’t available to everybody. For women that are marginalized, on a fixed income or living in poverty, it’s very challenging for them to be able to afford feminine hygiene products,” she says.

The event goes from 5 pm to 6 pm in the Cecil’s Map Room.

Officials say this is an opportunity to raise awareness and enjoy a social gathering with a purpose.
