hockey equipmentBoth the Men’s and women’s teams were in action last night. It’s been almost a year since the Nipissing Lakers women’s hockey team faced off against the Western Mustangs.

While their previous game had the Mustangs win the CIS Championships, this year saw the Lakers walk away with a 1-0 win.

The lone goal came in the second period with a shot by Jade Gauthier, with an assist by Stacey Henshaw. During the game, Jackie Rochefort made 23 saves in net, while the team made 22 shots towards the Western net.

This win helped put the team near the top of the OUA standings.

Next up are the Windsor Lancers this afternoon at Memorial Gardens, puck drop is set for 4:30

 

The Nipissing Lakers men’s hockey team has had a rough start to their weekend, after a loss last night to the Guelph Gryphons 3-2.

The first period saw the goalies work to keep the game scoreless during the first and half of the second period.

The Gryphons opened the scoring just past the mid-way point of the second period, and then again with just under five minutes left.

Mackenzie Keirstead then scored for Nipissing just as the period was ending.

The third period saw the Lakers tie the game with a goal by Colin Campbell, this lead the game into overtime.

The Gryphons then had the final goal, winning the game. Next up for the Lakers are the Western Mustangs tonight at 7:30 in Memorial Gardens.
