May is Community Living Month locally and around the province

May is Community Living Month and local officials are raising awareness.

Community Living North Bay Manager Vivian Degagne says they have a number of events lined up this month, including a flag raising at city hall this morning (Fri) at 10am.

That’s where the mayor will also read a proclamation declaring this Community Living Month.

Meantime, Degagne says there’s a “Let’s Do Lunch” BBQ next Friday at FJ Dellandrea Place (from 11:30 to 1 pm), a breakfast with the mayor and Special Olympians on the 13th (also at FJ Delandrea Place from 7:30 am to 9:30 am) along with a “Change that Makes Change” event on May 15th at Northgate Shopping Centre.

She says that event is about creating awareness as they’ll have displays set up at Centre Court, involving the different services and supports they offer.

They’ll also have containers accepting donations. Money raised directly supports people with making their wishes and dreams come true.

Community Living North Bay supports over 500 people who have intellectual disabilities in North Bay.
