Prescription Bottle - blank labelSaturday, May 9th is National Prescription Drugs Drop-Off Day and city police are involved once again.

Last year about 30 pounds of over-the-counter and prescription drugs were collected by city police. Almost half were narcotics.

Corporate Communications Coordinator Marie Lugli says residents are encouraged to drop off any unused or expired prescription medication, pointing out it’s all anonymous.

She says officers will be on hand to collect the drugs for safe, environmentally-friendly disposal.

The event goes from 10 am to 3 pm (on May 9th) in the back parking lot at city police headquarters on Princess Street West.

Police also remind people that they can help to prevent prescription drug misuse and abuse by taking back unwanted medications to their local pharmacy on a regular basis.
