Nipissing-UniversityThe union respresenting support staff at Nipissing University says the loss of 16 positions reflects a “regrettable lack of government support for post-secondary education.”

President of OPSEU Local 608 Rob Boulet says they’re saddened by the cuts, but appreciate the university working with them to minimize the impact on staff throughout the process.

He says, “This will involve relocating some members and reassigning others. Four of the positions were vacant, but there will be 12 fewer people here by the time we are through,”

The union says Nipissing is expected to save half a million dollars with this phase of their deficit restructuring, although the full impact through the bumping process is not known at this time.
