PICTURE A Day of Action was held outside MP Jay Aspin’s constituency office on Friday afternoon in North Bay. Organizer Suzanne Brooks says it’s action against Bill C-51, Ottawa’s anti terror legislation. The government says it’s targetting terrorists in light of last fall’s events in which a gunman killed a soldier at the National War Memorial and then stormed into the parliament buildings before being killed. But Brooks says people who speak out on other issues specifically people like her who say that land and water issues are more important than oil are also being targetted. She says the bill as is criminilizes speech, expands the powers of CSIS and contravenes our civil liberties. She says the government should slow down in its rush to push this through. Brooks says there are 50 Day of Action events going on across the country.
