cell phone drivingThe OPP has had enough.

The Northeast region’s media coordinator Sgt. Carolle Dionne says last year there were over a thousand collisions in which distracted driving played a factor in the northeast region.

In comparison there were 74 impaired driving collisions in 2014.

And with that in mind and the OPP’s distracted driving campaign starting Saturday there’s a new approach this year.

She says no warnings will be issued, pointing out the time has passed to hand out warnings.

Dionne encourages people to speak out, if you are a passenger, about the dangers of the driver not behind focused on the road, when behind the wheel.

She says last year there were 6 fatal collisions that are attributable to distracted driving in the region and there have been 2 already this year.

Dionne says the victims in those 2 were 33 and 70, meaning motorists of all ages are distracted when driving.
