The city says about 100 campers, ranging in age from 10 to 13 have been evacuated from Temagami to North Bay.

Mayor Al McDonald was contacted by the Keewaydin Canoe Camp requesting the city’s help at around 5:30 last night.

McDonald says the Emergency Management Team quickly coordinated the logistics for accommodations and meals, with several community partners and agencies involved in the effort.

“Everybody did a tremendous job including the fire chief, Melinda Fry who co-ordinated Memorial Gardens as a staging and registration location and Carrie at the Canadian Red Cross. Everything went very smoothly,” he says.
The campers are from all over Canada and the U.S.

“San Francisco, Miami, Michigan and Illinois. So they are all going to different places. So it will take 2-3 days to be able to co-ordinate all the transportation home,” he says.

McDonald says campers arrived at Memorial Gardens this morning around 8 am.
He says all the campers are together at a safe location as they await transportation to Pearson Airport and home.
The city says while expressions of donations of support for the campers are appreciated none are required at this time.
