Damages are estimated around $100,000 after an early morning fire on the 200 block of Greenwood Avenue.

City fire crews were dispatched at 3:30 am and found significant smoke and flames coming from the back of the structure when they arrived on the scene.

Deputy Chief Greg Saunders says the residents were alerted by working smoke alarms and safely evacuated the home.

“You are at your most vulnerable when you are asleep. This fire is yet another example that properly located properly maintained smoke alarms can alert you to danger when you are at your most vulnerable,” he says, in a release.

Fire Prevention is investigating the cause of the fire, but it is not considered suspicious.
