The Tour For Humanity Bus returned to North Bay yesterday.

The fully self contained mobile classroom presented by the Simon Wiesenthal Centre for Holocaust Studies stopped by Chippewa Secondary School.

Daniella Lurion is the Tour For Humanity co-ordinator.

She says the bus highlights several issues including the Holocaust, the Canadian residential school system and bullying.

“If someone is getting bullied at school they are being targeted for who they are. And that’s the foundation of a lot of hatred. What can you do on this micro scale to help 1 person to make a macro difference,” she says.

Visual Arts Students received a tour of the bus but they also had the chance in preparation of the arrival of the bus to show with art ways we can challenge society to bring change.

The students teacher is Angela Evans.

“When we spent 3 weeks painting they didn’t stop talking about it. Students were talking about the content of the paintings or something they saw on the news and it really expanded the discussion,” she says.

Lurion says the bus which travels around the province is designed to inspire and empower students to do what they can to make the world a better place.
The bus will be at Chippewa again Wednesday and West Ferris Thursday.
