An information picket is taking place outside the Tim Hortons on Lakeshore at Judge later today (Friday).

It all involves the increase to minimum wage and recent headlines about some Tim Hortons elsewhere in the province reducing employee benefits.

North Bay and District Labour Council President Henri Giroux says they’re joining with groups across Canada to send a message to the corporation’s CEO.

“We’ll be passing out some pamphlets to ask people to call the big corporation, we’ll also have petitions so people can sign, to say to Daniel Shwartz you need to treat your workers the right way,” he says.

Giroux says they’re not targeting the franchisee and they’re not boycotting anything.

“I drink hot chocolate every day, so we’re not asking that. All we’re asking is to do the right thing, stop being greedy and share some of the wealth with the workers that are working for you,” he says.

Giroux says Tim Hortons as a corporation earns $3-billion US per year, their CEO makes nearly $7-million a year and Tims annually pays out $350-million in profits to shareholders.
