Taxpayers will learn later today (Tuesday) what the cancellation of a gas plant project in Oakville will cost when the Auditor General releases her report. It’s expected the cost of the Oakville project will come in much higher than the last projections of $310 million. On Monday during Question Period, Opposition members, including Nipissing MPP and PC Finance Critic Vic Fedeli called on the government to detail the cost before the release of the report. He said “An honest, competent government wouldn’t wait 3 years until they’re held at penpoint by the Auditor General to come clean.” Government House Leader John Milloy then reminded the opposition they too wanted the plant to be cancelled, saying “I would suggest an honest and competent opposition would’ve had costing before they made the exact same promise. “ Premier Kathleen Wynne said during Question Period, she hadn’t seen the auditor’s report yet but has already apologized for the Liberals’ decisions to cancel the Oakville plant and another in Mississauga. The auditors report will be delivered Tuesday afternoon at 3pm.
